Calling all writers, artists, and other creatives: McCabe's Printing Group is accepting submissions for our new Literary Journal: "Building an Ecosystem."

We're always look for ways to grow our community. To give local creatives the means to continue developing their craft, we are designing, printing, and distributing a limited-run paperback journal highlighting the written and visual work of authors and artists in Northern Virginia.

The first edition of "Building an Ecosystem" will be limited to 500 printed copies. Most of those copies will be freely distributed to its contributors and the remainder will be sold by McCabe's Printing Group and several local partners.

Contributors are free to sell their copies of the journal and keep 100% of their earnings to further develop their craft. McCabe's Printing Group's copies will feature a split earnings system intended to fairly benefit the contributors, retailers, and cover some of our production costs.

Works can accommodate virtually any genre if their contents could be deemed suitable for a "PG-13" audience. This includes fiction, non-fiction, poetry, biographies, playscripts, illustrations, and photography. Excerpts from longer works are OK if they are properly noted and if their plot has enough structure in its condensed form.

Submitted content should be original work that is proofread and free of copyright concerns or potential conflicts from inclusion in works from other publishers. Submissions should be from authors and artists within the Northern Virginia community. The inside pages will be printed in black-and-white and at a 6" x 9" trade paperback size.

Written submissions should be fewer than 7000 words and visual submissions should be limited to approximately 10 items.

Projects should be submitted via email with the appropriate attachments and contact information (name, phone number, email, etc.) to Ecosystem@McCabesPrinting.com. We will be accepting submissions for review between March 14, 2025 and April 25, 2025. The target release is in late June 2025.

All supplied information will be considered sensitive and will be handled as securely as possible. All submitted intellectual property throughout the entire process belongs and remains with you. We only reserve the copyright to the project’s design, layout, and printed entity.
